BROKEN

TELEPHONE

Adapting the childhood game, we used the system of Broken Telephone to further explore character development. Done in three cycles, each initial video featured a specific action that the other performers would take turns each to film in character- the character choices being known only to the performers themselves. As the videos progressed, each subsequent course of action would develop into something of its own. The ends of every cycle were met with online meetings to discuss what we saw and to guess which character was which in each video. This allowed not only to start developing narrative ideas on a more visceral level, it also allowed for us to start drawing thematic and aesthetic connections between and beyond the three characters.
